Cyber Defense Solutions, LLC (CDS) was founded as a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business in 2008. Since its humble beginnings located at the Mason Enterprise Center start-up incubator in Fairfax, Virginia, CDS has grown exponentially and is now headquartered in Lorton, Virginia. The company started out as a training resource in the cyber security space but has since branched out into providing subject matter experts to the federal government to defend the nations cyber infrastructure. CDS has gained a reputation within, and beyond, the capital beltway for providing quality service and loyalty to our customers and partners.
In April of 2015, Herbert “Lamont” Moody joined the CDS team and is our Senior Director of Programs. Lamont brings years of management and operations execution experience to the team and will help ensure CDS’s programs continue to execute flawlessly as they proceed to grow. In March of 2016, Francisco Martin joined the CDS team and currently is our Director of Operations. He runs all IT Infrastructure/Information Security, Human Capital and Quality Management efforts as well as support all Business Development tactics. In 2018, Guy Hinkler joined the team to lead and support the company's expansion and growth efforts as Director of Mergers and Acquisitions.
CDS’s core competencies include Information Assurance, Computer Network Defense and IT Training. Through the execution of our Cyber Security programs, CDS has also developed competency in System and Network Administration and Engineering, Software Programming and Development, as well as Cloud Administration and Engineering utilizing Amazon Web Services. As an example of CDS’s success, CDS was selected as a recipient of the Northrop Grumman Supplier Recognition Program / Supplier Excellence Award – 2015. in 2018 CDS was recognized by Inc5000 for the third year in a row as the Nation's fastest growing companies.
Rodney DeCarteret - President & Founding Member
Rodney brings more than 19 years of government service experience that spans the entire IT lifecycle as both a member of the United States Army and as a government contractor supporting the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security and Intelligence Community. Prior to founding Cyber Defense Solutions, Rodney held several senior positions as a government contractor, including Analytical Services and Coordination Lead (Threat, IAVA, Network System/Media and Malware Analysis) for Joint Task Force – Global Network Operations (JTF-GNO), Principle Cyber Security Engineer for a US Congress SOC, and Cyber Threat Watch Analyst and Section Lead for the Network and Trend Analysis section of the Cyber Intel Center, 1st IO CMD. Rodney is a service-disabled veteran who served 8 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. His military assignments include leading the Communications Engineering branch of the 335th Theater Signal Command, providing communications engineering for South West Asia during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, earning him a Bronze Star, as well as several technical supervisor positions as a Non-Commissioned Officer while stationed at Fort Hood Texas and Camp Casey Korea. In addition to being a Senior Executive at CDS, Rodney has supported several prime contractors as a member of CDS, in roles such as Principle or Lead Incident Responder (PENTCIRT/ DIA DCNDC), Lead Security Engineer (Congress), and lead of the Digital Analytics Branch (Media and Malware Analysis/Reverse Engineering) at the US-CERT. He holds a MBA in IT Management, as well as degrees in Business information systems and Electronic Switching Systems, as well as certifications from Microsoft, ISC2, ISACA, SANS/GIAC, EC-Council and CompTIA, including but not limited to the CISSP, CISA, CEH and GREM.
Herbert "Lamont" Moody - Director of Programs
Lamont Moody is the Director of Programs at Cyber Defense Solutions, LLC. In this position, Lamont directs and manages existing programs, oversees the development of programmatic objectives for future work, and assists in the implementation of corporate strategy. Lamont also performs in a contractor capacity supporting the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), Department of Homeland Security, as the Communications Lead. In this capacity, Lamont plans, develops and coordinates internal and external communications programs to increase awareness and understanding of the US‐CERT’s strategies and goals. Although firmly entrenched in executive management, Lamont served for 11 years supporting Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) programs prior to coming to Cyber Defense Solutions, LLC. Professional highlights include increasing positions of responsibility to include lead intrusion detection and insider threat analyst, cyber intelligence analyst and senior program manager while supporting programs at the Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations (JTF-GNO), Marine Corps Network Operations and Security Center (MCNOSC), Defense Advanced Resource Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Lamont is a graduate of American Military University, with a BS in Information Systems Security and a veteran of both the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the United States Army.
Francisco Martin - Director of Corporate Operations
Having worked in varied professional environments, Francisco brings 13 years of business management expertise to CDS. His background includes B2B negotiations, client relationship management, business development, and staff training and supervision, which in conjunction with his extensive technical and information systems security expertise, makes him a highly competent leader in a rapidly evolving market. He contributes strong strategic planning and project management skills to our growing organization. Francisco provides keen expertise in Quality Assurance, strong Cybersecurity Management leadership and solid Human Capital Management competence. Francisco holds a Bachelor's in Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in Information Systems Security and Forensics, and is Security+ certified, Business Development Expert certified, ISO 9001, 20000-1, 27001 Integrated Internal Auditor certified.
Guy Hinkler, Sr. - Director of Mergers and Acquisitions
Mr. Hinkler serves as CDS’s growth counselor and spearhead for identification, due diligence, and integration of acquisition targets. He’s been a trusted IT consultant and engineer for government, commercial, and nonprofit clients since 1986. Hinkler founded V2 Systems IT Professionals in 1995, eventually helping more than one thousand unique clients grow and prosper. He steadily grew the company through outstanding service and by acquiring a total of six companies within a three-year period, eventually selling his shares to V2’s employee-owners in 2011. The V2 Systems culture of performance and dedication to their client’s success earned the company multiple spots on the “Virginia Fantastic 50” fastest growing companies as named by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and a spot on the “Inc. 5000” list for three years reaching as high as #915. Hinkler serves as the Vice Chairman for Legislative Affairs at The Fauquier Chamber of Commerce, is a Founding Member of the American Small Business Coalition, served on the Member Council of the Tower Club-Tysons, and Deltek’s Customer Advisory Panel. He has paid forward over 10,000 hours in the community primarily supporting youth programs through 4H and local public school systems and was recognized with a Volunteer Service Award by The President of The United States in 2004. Mr. Hinkler earned a degree in Computer Technology in 1986 from Control Data Institute and was A+ certified by CompTIA in 1992. He also earned and maintained top partner certifications with Microsoft and Cisco.
